DRK Lighting Update: Quarter 2, 2026

We’d like to show you a little bit of what we’ve been up to lately.

Introducing THE BLACK BOX

Our Fully-Equipped Testing Lab

The Black Box is here! Our advanced, purpose-built luminaire testing and compliance laboratory is designed to ensure every DRK fitting performs exactly as specified. Featuring a high-precision goniophotometer for detailed photometric analysis, alongside in-house EMC testing within a fully controlled, reflection-free environment, we deliver fast, reliable data you can trust; supporting accurate lighting design, streamlined certification, and consistent product quality from concept through to installation.

BS8887_220 Sustainable Lighting Remanufacturing

We are absolutely delighted to announce that DRK has officially been accredited with BS8887_220 Sustainable Lighting Remanufacturing certification.

BS8887-220 is a UK standard that defines best practice for the process of remanufacturing lighting products to meet modern safety, performance, and traceability requirements. Compliance is still relatively uncommon because it demands advanced processes and rigorous validation that only a small number of organisations currently achieve, and we are thrilled to be one of them!

Installation at the [d]arc Awards – 30th April

A fun collaboration with dpa lighting – their wonderful Solaris concept, brought to life by us. This installation is an interactive sun, inspired by Heath Robinson, activated by visitors and made from recycled materials. Solaris now has pride of place in our Shoreditch Showroom.

Crazy Gang

Our MD, Darren Roper-Knight, recently hosted some footballing icons in our AFC Wimbledon box. The Dons Crazy Gang Legend, Vinnie Jones and Chelsea Legend, Alan Hudson (a regular in our box) and Dons legend, Ivor Heller (Dons lifetime Vice President).

Darren and Vinnie had plenty to catch up on from the old days when they used to go out together around Shepherd’s Bush. We’ve had the iconic  FA Cup ‘88 Vinnie photo lightbox on our walls since we first took on our private box four years ago.

[d]arc Sessions, Sicily

DRK Lighting attended this year’s [d]arc sessions, three days in Sicily with the
backdrop of Mount Etna.

[d]arc sessions bring together designers and lighting brands for networking, creative collaboration, and plenty of inspiration.

Lots of really positive conversations around our Remanufacturing, with strong interest from designers on how existing fittings can be reused rather than replaced.

BP Sunbury Remanufacturing Case Study

BP’s Sunbury headquarters underwent a major lighting transformation, delivered by DRK as one of the UK’s largest remanufacturing projects and the largest showcase of Bluetooth controls in Europe. Instead of replacing fittings, around 8,500 luminaires were upgraded, in situ, reducing waste and supporting the circular economy. Our in-situ remanufacturing approach reduced transportation-related carbon emissions.

Fluorescent lighting was converted to energy-efficient LED technology, cutting wattage from 72W to 20W per fitting and delivering significant energy savings with a rapid payback.

Multiple buildings were fully upgraded to LED, with the majority also integrating the HubSense smart lighting system. This Bluetooth-enabled solution optimised energy use, simplified maintenance, and reduced ongoing costs. This project has set a new benchmark for sustainable lighting refurbishment.

Below is a short animation about the project.

Lighting Designers Event

We hosted an event for lighting designers from Spiers + Major, Akuri, Michael Grubb Studio, Studio Elstow and Nulty at our Shoreditch Showroom to celebrate our shared love of light. With spicy margaritas, pizza and some hands-on creativity, we had an evening full of great conversation, inspiration and connection.
